Obituary for Jack Byers

Jack Byers, age 77 of Warne, NC passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his residence.

He was a native of Clay County, NC and the son of the late Charles Woodrow and Irene Byers. Jack was a retired heavy equipment operator with Colwell Construction. He was a US Army veteran. Jack was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. His hobby was small engine repair. Jack was a true outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ben Edward Byers; a daughter, Gayla Lee Scruggs; brothers, Wayne Byers, Roy Lee Byers, Monroe Byers and Claude D. Byers; and sisters, Helen Scharringhausen and Betty Sue Hooper.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra Joan Byers; two sons, Charles Jack Byers of Blairsville, GA and Steven Michael Byers and wife Phyllis of Hayesville; four daughters, Lisa Darlene Doss of Bozeman, MT, Becky Baker and husband C.N. and Karen Calhoun and husband Eric all of Morganton, NC, and Susie Sherlin Curtis of Brunswick, GA; brothers, Fred Byers, Lawrence Byers and Thomas Byers all of Hayesville, NC; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Hayesville. Rev. Brandon Paul Ware and Pastor Dennis Miles will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wade Byers, Butch Hooper, David Byers, Benny Fred Byers, Danny Byers and Mike Byers. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Sean Byers, C.J. Byers, Casey Calhoun and Jarred Price.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service hour.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 250 Hall Cove Road, Warne, NC 28909.
