Liz Rothlein died in her home in Warne, NC. Originally schooled in Ohio, she moved to Miami, Florida with a Doctoral Degree in Education from Ball State University in 1976.

Liz served with great enthusiasm for 25 years at the University of Miami retiring in 2007 with a full professorship and 13 years as the Associate Dean of the School of Education. She is the author/co-author of approximately 30 teacher education books for children, numerous journal articles and as presenter at local, state and national conference.

Some of her noted credits and recognitions include Teacher of the Year, official listing as an outstanding Teacher of America, teaching plaudits from the Bahamas and Oxford, England summer exchange student visitation program.

Here in Warne, we are surrounded by beautiful mountains, wonderful neighbors and friends established in the community. Both of us for a period of some years felt honored to carry Meals on Wheels to the needy in Clay County.

Liz and I have been together for 40 years. As her ever loving husband, Ash Rothlein, I am deeply grateful that she passed peacefully and spiritually in a place she truly called home these past 10 years.

In addition to be survived by two daughters, Terri Wild and Kimberly Brandt by a previous marriage to Floren Christman, two stepsons, Jay and Steve Rothlein. Dr. Rothlein is survived by four grandchildren, Amanda, Jason, Tyler and Sophie, a sister, Linda Foley and two brothers, Jim and John Brandt.
