Shirley Hancock Jones Zimmerman, age 73 of Marble, North Carolina passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at her son's residence in Hoover, Alabama after an extended illness.
She was a native of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Clint and Anna Lee Hancock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Jones and two brothers, Jerry and Gerald Hancock.
She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Hoyt Zimmerman; one son, Keith Jones and wife Terri of Hoover, Alabama; one grandchild, Amy Jones Frazer and husband Chris of Nashville, TN; two stepchildren, Keith Zimmerman and wife Kim of Murphy and Stacy Allore and husband Jeff of Blairsville, GA; one sister, Shelby Ware and husband Ron of Knoxville, TN; five step-grandchildren, Megan Swanson and Levi Zimmerman of Murphy, Kailyn Cornwell of Franklin, Trevor Crouch of Cullowhee and Rachel Allore of Chapel Hill and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Ransen Swanson.
Shirley retired from MGM brakes after 30 years of service in Human Resources. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Shirley, at heart was a homemaker. She will best be remembered for the way she cared for and took interest in the lives of those she loved. She was a wonderful cook and took pride in preparing meals for her family. Shirley was a strong woman. Despite facing heartache in her life, she had a steadfast belief in her Lord, Jesus Christ and was a faithful servant.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 12:45 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. Jimmy Rogers will officiate. Music will be provided by Kaitlynn Pope accompanied by Becky Brown. Pallbearers will be Larry Kernea, Gary Westmoreland, Jerry Farner, Levi Zimmerman, Trevor Crouch and Jeff Allore. Burial will follow in Tomotla Cemetery where she will be interred by her beloved son, David.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
