Obituary for Richard Fleming

Richard Fleming, age 81 of Fletcher, NC passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

He was born in Greenville County, SC to the late Jess and Lillie Mae Justice Fleming. Richard was an US Army veteran during the Korean Conflict with the 101 Airborne Special Forces. He served three years as the Scout Master Troop 101 in Blairsville and also three terms as Commander Chapter 11. Richard also was the State Commander for the State of Georgia D.A.V. from 1984 to 1985 and 1995 to 1996. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Young Harris.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Joe Richard Fleming; three brothers, Earl, Doris and James Fleming and three sisters, Viola Barbare, Lois Mae Payne and Delcie Clark.

He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Mary Ashe Fleming; three sons, Doug Fleming, Jimmy Fleming and Michael Fleming; three daughters, Kathleen Brendle, Sarah Paris and Michelle Russell; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Tulley Griggs and Rev. Jeff Graham will officiate. Burial will be held in the Old Martins Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and V.F.W. Post #6812. Pallbearers will be the former members of the Boy Scouts Troop 101.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
