Obituary for Ernest Floyd

Ernest Floyd, age 91 of the Hiwassee Dam area passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC. Ernest was the son of the late John and Nora Melissa Crain Floyd. He was retired from TVA as an electrical line foreman. Ernest was a member of the Union IBEW Local 846 in Chattanooga, TN. He was a US Army veteran. Ernest was a member of Reid's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was the best Dad in the world and his grandchildren thought he hung the moon.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lucille Price Floyd; two sons, Timothy Wesley Floyd and Jefferson Floyd; grandchildren, (Little) John Ernest Floyd, Aaron Daniel Floyd, Jason Jeremy Floyd, and Adrienne Floyd; brothers, Paul Floyd, George Floyd and Clyde Floyd; sisters, Mae Stephen and Gladys Walls.

He is survived by his children, Mary Floyd McNabb and husband Bill and Sharon Floyd Palmer all of the Hiwassee Dam community; one brother, Cassey Floyd also of the Hiwassee Dam community; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Reid's Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Calvin Murphy, Rev. Jerry Morrow and Mr. Tom Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and V.F.W. Post #6812. Pallbearers will be Benjamin McNabb, Nathan Brant McNabb, Evan McNabb, Wesley Floyd, Joshua Palmer, Jake Palmer and Isaac Floyd.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.
