Obituary for Vaughn Donald Moore

Vaughn Donald Moore, 91 of Hayesville NC, passed away May 23, 2017 at Emory Hospital, Atlanta GA following a brief illness. He is survived by his loving family including wife, Dorothy Matheson Moore; son, Randall Vaughn Moore of Hayesville NC and one daughter, Holly Moore Rollins of Greenville SC and two grandchildren: Michael Lee Moore and Ethan Mckenzie Matheson. He is also survived by his sister, Eulene Moore Rogers and predeceased by two brothers, John Lester Moore and Edgar Cornelius Moore and his parents, Paul Henry Moore and Odena Clement Moore.

He was born and raised in Tusquittee NC and was a lifelong resident of Hayesville where attended Hayesville High. After serving in the US Army during WWII 1943—44, he studied machining at North Georgia Tech, Clarksville GA. Following a brief machinist career, he was a farmer of poultry, livestock and tobacco -- basically the rest of his working life.

He had a parallel career and hobby in woodworking the past 20 years where he crafted beautiful bowls which he shared with family and friends and as well as sold at area festivals. He proudly served as Hayesville Town Councilman for two terms. He is also a member of the Clay Masonic Lodge 301AF/AM and attended Truett Memorial Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held 11am Saturday, May 27 at the Hayesville Baptist Presbyterian Cemetery at 165 Robins Rest Loop in Hayesville. Rev. Johnny Foster will officiate.
