Obituary for George Van Campen

04/30/1946 - 06/21/2017

George Van Campen, aged 71, of Hayesville, NC made his final flight on 21 June 2017, soaring to heaven to be with his family – sister, Jean, and mom and dad, Rena and George Sr.

George fought a valiant battle against an extremely aggressive cancer that ended his life far too soon, but he never complained, stating he was ready to rejoin his family. George devoted himself to his love of electronics, becoming a bio-electrical engineer contributing to the development of life-saving technologies, specializing in medical imaging and diagnostic devices. He was brilliant in his field, and received seven patents for his inventions. Early in his life he was a ham radio operator, and later he became a commercial pilot, rated to fly his employer’s corporate jet aircraft.

George leaves behind only a few relatives – brother-in-law Don, nephew Don, nephew Doug and niece Sande. He also leaves his beloved cat and long-time companion “Chooch.”

George had a big heart and especially appreciated the devoted efforts of his care provider, M. J. Parker who loyally stood by him for the past year and during his intensive cancer treatments.

The family extends its thanks to M. J. for her extraordinary efforts on their behalf, and especially her tender care of George.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
