Obituary for Parker Burgess

Parker D. Burgess, 69 of Marble, NC arrived in glory at 7:11 pm, Friday, September 1, 2017.

A native of Duluth, Georgia, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Glenda Ruth; sons, Clint Burgess and wife Terri Gage, Joshua Burgess and one grandson, Dwayne; his mother, Nathalie Goolsby Burgess and one sister, Hilda Tumlin and husband Raymond; brother-in-law, Perry LaFever and wife Janie and sister-in-law, Brenda Artt and husband John; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Shelia T. Burgess; his father-in-law, Charlie LaFever and mother-in-law, Lula LaFever; one brother-in-law, Clifford LaFever.

Parker was Founder and President of Souls for Christ doing outreach work in North Dakota on the Sioux Indian Reservation as well as Pastor of Hyatts Creek Baptist Church in Marble for more than 34 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Doctor Clint Kerns, Dr. Lamoyne Sharpe, Pastor Louis Grant and Pastor Harvey Ware will officiate. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dewey Lamar Woodall, Ronnie Burgess, Terrance Goolsby, Jack Payne, Gary Pollock, Jr., Joshua Morgan, Louis Grant and Ray Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Pastor Kenneth Cofer, Pastor Harvey Ware, Tommy Williams, Charlie Morgan, Lee Sanders and Colton Morgan.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hyatts Creek Baptist Church, 100 Hyatts Creek Church Road, Marble, NC 28905 or to The Gideon's International (for King James Bible distribution), PO Box 624, Murphy, NC 28906.
