Obituary for Mark Dwayne Golden

Mark Dwayne Golden, 53, of Murphy NC passed away on Wednesday, September 13th, 2017 in Mineral Bluff, Georgia. He was born at Fort Jackson, SC to John L. Golden and the late Peggy J. Golden. He lived most of his life in Murphy, North Carolina.

Mark was a 1982 graduate of Hiwassee Dam High School and took several college courses at Western Carolina University. He also completed ROTC basic camp at Fort Knox, KY in 1985. Growing up, Mark was very outgoing and enjoyed various sports and outdoor activities such as basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis. He was an accomplished baseball pitcher at Hiwassee Dam High School. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching and going to NASCAR races with his brother, Mitchell.

Mark was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was passionate about all animals, especially his dogs. Mark worked as a manager in retail for most of his life. He loved working with his sister, Mona, at Papa's Pizza in Murphy, NC.

Mark is survived by his father, John L. Golden of Murphy, NC; a son, Bryan Golden of Chicago, IL.; a daughter, Brittney Norton and son-in-law, Joshua Norton, of Warner Robins, GA, and one grandchild, Reed Norton also of Warner Robins, GA. He is also survived by a brother, Mitchell Golden and sister-in-law, Sheila Golden and a sister, Mona Golden, all of Murphy, NC; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Mark is preceded in death by his mother Peggy J. Golden.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Tim Dickey and Rev. Ronnie Crisp will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.
