Obituary for William "Bill" Jack Hughes

William "Bill" Jack Hughes, age 86 of Murphy, NC passed away at home, Thursday, September 21, 2017.

Bill was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the youngest son of 16 children of the late W. Astor Hughes and Lillie Bell Crisp Hughes. He was a US WWII Army veteran and served in Germany 1948-1950 as part of the 862nd Engineer Aviation Battalion at Rheem Air Force Base. Bill was a retired boilermaker with Boilermaker's National. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing the guitar. Bill was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Moore Hughes; one daughter, Wanda Hughes Roberts; one grandson, John Clark; eight brothers, Otis Hughes, Walter Hughes, Harford Hughes, Emory Hughes, Bradford Hughes, Wayne Postell, Grady Postell and George Postell and five sisters, Louise Lance, Edna Stalcup, Jo Williams, Ruth Owensby and Christine Anderson.

He is survived by one brother, Clay Hughes of Oregon; his children, Mike Hughes of South Carolina, Brenda Williams and husband Tim of Copperhill, TN and Randy Hughes and wife Wendy of Candler, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Chadwick, Heather Bresch, Adrienne Clark Higdon, Brandon Hughes and Brooke Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Kayla Brooks, Rhowan Bresch and Susanna Chadwick.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Derek Tilley will officiate. Burial will be in the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and V.F.W.Post #6812. Pallbearers will be Neil Chadwick, Jeremy Bresch, Alan Moore, David Yonce, Jason Killian and Larry Curtis. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Panter and Harold Moore.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
