Howell Lloyd Kirby, age 82 of Hayesville went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 11, 2017 after a long illness.
He was a lifetime resident of Clay County. He was the son of the late Henry and Flora Bell Long Kirby. Howell worked nearly 30 years as a card operator for Coats America. He enjoyed gardening and rock hunting. Howell was a member of Chatuge Hills Assembly of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Fred Kirby and three sisters, Lucille Kirby, Maybell Grooms and Thelma Davenport.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois Killian Kirby; son, Gary Kirby and wife Tammy of Hayesville; daughter, Shelly Smith and husband Floyd of Hayesville; twin brother, Jimmy Kirby of Gastonia, NC; two grandchildren, Jeremy Kirby and Diane Dockery and husband Shane; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Avery Dockery and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Sunday October 15, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Pastor Danny Holland and Rev. Aline Mosteller will officiate. Music will be provided by Teresa Holland. Pallbearers will be Mitch and Benny Kirby, Shane Dockery, Jerry Robinson, Bill O'Neil and Ronnie Burch. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Kirby, Matthew Dockery and Avery Dockery. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville.
