Obituary for Don Irwin Brunner

Brunner, Don Irwin 76, died peacefully on November 15, 2017 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Don was born September 4, 1941 in Williams, Minnesota, the second son of John and Evelyn Brunner. His passions included hiking, farming, carpentry, and adventures. Don took great pleasure in understanding how things work. He was a lifelong teacher, especially to his children and grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of quiet, gentle, and competent service to his community. He graduate Williams High School in Williams, Minnesota. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from Southern Missionary College in 1967, and with minors in Math and Physics. On August 16, 1953, Don married Myrtle Wint. During their 54 years of marriage, Don and Myrtle enjoyed gardening, traveling with family, and taking train excursions. Through a disciplined lifestyle he enjoyed excellent health and worked until his death. He was employed as an electrician and other maintenance positions, including at McKee Baking Company. He taught Math at East Fannin County High School for 8 years, before becoming a respected home builder in North Georgia and Western North Carolina.

Don is survived by his wife, Myrtle and 10 siblings, Jim (Wilma) Brunner of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Karyl (Bill) Williams of Homer, Alaska; Eve (Rick) Frazier of Loudon, Tennessee, Dave (Laura) Brunner of Brooksville, Florida, Rita (Dusty) Krohn of Floral City, Florida, Anita (Ray) Phillips of Loudon, Tennessee, Will (Danica) Brunner of Aptos, California, Nancy (Maurice) Franks of Tryon, North Carolina, and Wanda (Billy) Bagenstos of Greenville, Tennessee. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Richard O'Brien. He will be missed by his children, Mark (Lori) Brunner of Danville, Kentucky, Bruce (Rachael) Brunner of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, Chris (Lora) Brunner of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, and Lisa (Kris) Black of Pueblo, Colorado. He was a devoted grandfather to Hannah, Sam, Seth, Stephen, Scot, George, Sara, Jason, Amaranth, Lily, Camelia, John, River, Katarina, and Micah.

Don was a dedicated volunteer and board member at Murphy Adventist Christian School. Through his time and expertise he ministered to the indigenous poor of South America.

A life celebration service for Don Brunner will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:30 PM in the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, North Carolina.
