Obituary for Rue Ann Suzy Baker

Mrs. Rue Ann Suzy (Flater) Baker, born on July 27, 1939, in Jasonville, Indiana, to the late Ruby Flater and the late Paul Flater, entered her eternal rest at the age 79 on September 25, 2018, in Murphy, North Carolina. She graduated from Jasonville High School in 1957 and then served in the U.S. Air Force where she met her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert L. Baker. She worked in the health-care industry as a ward clerk and medical technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida, from 1973 until she retired in 1998. She was preceded in death by her brother, Terry Flater. Rue Ann leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her son, Mark Baker and his wife, Marian (Massie)Baker of Apollo Beach, Florida; her son, Scott Baker and his wife, Leigh (Travis) Baker of Paris, Tennessee; daughter, Maren Fawcett and her husband, Greg Fawcett of Holly Springs, North Carolina; brother, Dale Flater of Pittsboro, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, Garrett Baker, David Baker, Amber Massie, Skylar Baker, Ryan Fawcett, Kyle Fawcett and Evan Fawcett. She also leaves behind her greatly loved cat, Socks. Rue Ann discovered artistry through oil painting and also enjoyed reading and loved animals. She was a member of Ranger Baptist Church, having dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at the age of 12. Rue Ann expressly requested not to be memorialized with a funeral or service. She asked that her family and friends not mourn her death with tears but find joy in God's promise that one day there will be no more death, pain or sorrow. As the family honors her wishes, we want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rue Ann's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital are welcome and appreciated. Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
