Irvin James Chambers age 90 of Cornelia, Georgia and formerly of Murphy passed away January 23, 2019 at the Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, TN.
He was a native of Cherokee County and the son of the late James Marion and Mattie Weeks Chambers. Irvin was a retired barber and was a US Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, Irvin was preceded in death by his wife Mary Mills Chambers who passed away December 31, 2018; two brothers, Roy Chambers and Henry; five sisters, Forrest Whitener, Georgia Mae Deal, Maddie Bryant, Lydia Bryson and Edith Carringer.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Dr. Eddis Dockery will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, NC and the Marine Corp League Marble, NC. Pallbearers will be Bradley Hurlburt, Millard Hurlburt, Jason Hughes, Ethan Hughes, Justin Hedden and Tanner Creelman.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm, Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8714 Weigarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.
