Geraldine Clonts Garland, age 87 of Murphy, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Geraldine was born and lived in Cherokee County her whole life. She was a graduate of Murphy High School, Class of 1951. Geraldine began her career in 1956 as a secretary to the superintendent for Cherokee County Schools. Later in her career, she served as the payroll officer for the school system until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Ranger Baptist Church where she served several years as the church clerk. After retiring, she spent many years caring for her parents, father-in-law and husband. Geraldine loved her family and enjoyed her beautiful flower garden and loved sharing the beauty of it with others.
In addition to her parents, Charlie and Lexie Stiles Clonts, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Garland, Sr.
She is survived by her sons Robert Lee Garland, Jr and wife Suzhen and Charles Kenneth "Kenny" Garland and wife Carmen; and grandchildren Lucas David Garland and Camden Worth Garland.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Derrick Palmer and Rev. Steve Ware will officiate. Burial will be in Ranger Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Cheek, Jerry Curtis, Radford Cheek, Sam Davis, Lucas Garland and Jimmy Hedrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Miller, Pete Barber, Jearold Stiles and Calvin Shields.
The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Geraldine's honor to the Ranger Baptist Cemetery Fund, 151 Walker Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
