Edgar Basil Maniotes April 8th 1963 - August 27th 2024

Edgar Basil Maniotes Passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. In his final days there was beauty in his realizing the effect he has had on people throughout his life.

Edgar (Ed) is survived by his wife Lynne (Zimmerman) Maniotes and three siblings Basil Constantine, Evanthia, and Jonathan and one dog named Shooter. Ed's family is diverse and fascinating. Born in Athens Greece to Constantine Basil Maniotes and Elizabeth Woodfin, he was the longest baby ever to be born in that hospital. Ed grew up mostly in Georgia but had time in Greece as well, further making impressions that would lead him through life. This cultural menagerie is part of what made Ed so lovable and interesting.

Ed graduated college from Berry College where he met his wife Lynne. After college he began his journey in the construction industry with Lynne by his side. He built hotels for the Woodfin Suites chain throughout the country. He then returned home to Georgia, married Lynne, and continued his path in the construction field by earning an advanced degree from Georgia State. He and Lynne decided to pursue a quieter life and moved to Hayesville, North Carolina. Ed built their home on Lynne's maternal family farm on the banks of the Hiwassee river.

He then continued his calling in the building industry and started ELM construction. Ed built many houses and developed the McGlamery Farms subdivision in the Hayesville area. He was creative and visionary and always got the job done. Ed was always looking for adventure and enjoyed the rock crawling(four wheeling) community, shooting, fishing, and even Remote Control Vehicle racing. He loved the mechanics of it all and was fascinated by what made things work.

Through his hobbies and jobs Ed was a mentor and friend of many, changing lives in meaningful ways. He was welcoming, trustworthy and genuine and his legacy will live on through many for years to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
