It's with great sadness and a heavy heart to say Joy Johnson-Jakelis passed Monday, December 30, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, and stepmother.
She passed away peacefully at her home with her beloved husband at her side. She gave so much in so many ways, generously sharing her love, knowledge, support, and kindness. Joy loved life and lived it to its fullest. She was a lady to admire and look up to. She was an accomplished dancer, therapist, and nutritionist.
Joy was born Joyce Oser Kalt, on October 4, 1932. Joy acquired a doctorate in Psychology. She built a successful psychology and massage practice in Tampa, FL. Before moving to Hayesville, NC with her husband, Ron. She enjoyed staying active within the community, teaching stretch and dance classes, within the Hayesville area. As well as a dance instructor at Tri Country Community College.
Joy was an accomplished cook, she published her favorite vegetarian recipes in The Sensuous Gourmet cookbook. She and her husband Ron, loved to travel around the world. On many of those travels, she was frequently asked to speak at seminars and speaking engagements.
She was a very special lady, who touched so many people's lives, in so many positive ways. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald "Ron" Jakelis; by her sons, Stephen, Ken, and Greg Solloway; her daughter Hilary Johnson; and her stepchildren, Kelley, Todd, Rix, and Kerri Jakelis; along with 16 grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 am at Moss Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday, January 18th, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
