Donald Meyer, 96, of Hiawassee, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 20, 2026. Don was born September 29, 1929 in Hawthorne, NJ, the son of George and Anna Meyer. He took pride in his Dutch heritage. He would often be heard using his Dutch words and phrases around the house.
Don proudly served United States Air Force from 1950 and fought in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a Crew Chief on a B-29 Superfortress. Don took pleasure in searching for and buying older cars. He would drive them around and then be on the search for the next one. He loved reading and studying the scriptures.
He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee and was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. He survived by his loving wife of six years, Pat Lehman; his children, Donald (Rita) Meyer, Douglas (Kim) Meyer, Sandra Smith (Ed); step-daughter, Julia (Michael) Le Breaux ; seven grandchildren who called him Paaca, and six great-grandchildren; his sister, Grace West and numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Milo.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of sixty-three years, Jean Meyer; grandchildren, Teal, Amber, and Olivia; and eight siblings.
A Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Hope Hospice.
