Obituary for Doyle MB Henson

08/28/1935 - 01/05/2026

Doyle MB Henson, age 90, of Hayeville, NC, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Doyle was born on Standing Indian in Macon County, North Carolina, to the late Carl and Gussie Ledford Henson.

Doyle and his wife, Janice (deceased), were residents of Clay County for the last 26 years after retiring and were married 65 years before her passing in 2024.

Doyle faithfully served his country in both the Army and Air Force. He worked for RCA, tracking unmanned and manned spacecraft for NASA during the space race. He transitioned to working the rest of his engineering career as a contractor with the Department of Defense. Doyle was a world traveler, having lived overseas in England and Germany, as well as residing in California and Maryland. Doyle and Janice loved hosting get-togethers in Lake Toxaway and later at their home in Hayesville. He was an avid golfer, achieving a hole-in-one and presiding as the Men’s Golf president at Chatuge Shores for a time.

Doyle excelled at being a grandfather to his two grandsons. He taught Wilson how to build a computer at the age of 8 and instilled in Elijah a love of carpentry and all things mechanical. Doyle loved his family deeply. He possessed a vast knowledge of a myriad of subjects; his quick wit was legendary.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy, Hoover, and Don, and his sisters, Betty Sanders, Barbara Moses, and Loretta Riddle, as well as his cherished wife, Janice Truelove Henson.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Angie) Henson Sorensen, and her husband, Christopher, of Chattanooga; and his two grandsons, Wilson Sorensen and his wife, Dzhuliya, of Atlanta, and Elijah Sorensen of Chattanooga. Doyle is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews, and dearest friend, John Sandell.

Doyle passed away peacefully and reunited with his dearest Janice and Our Lord in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
