Obituary for Robert N. Long

Robert N. Long, 77, of Hayesville passed away Tuesday, November 09, 2021.

He was born in Clay County to the late Buford N. and Donnie Maney Long. Robert served in the US Army and also the National Guard. Robert loved hunting and fishing; especially the hunting trip out west with his buddies. He built many homes in Clay County and also served as the building inspector in Clay County. He enjoyed gardening, playing on his tractor and backhoe. Robert had a willing heart to help others in time of need. He was a great collector of things. Robert loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He was a member of Mission Hill Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dale, R.L., James, Paul B., and Billy Long; and infant sister, Eula Mae.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Eller Long; one son, Jeff Long and wife Teresa of Meritt Island, FL; two daughters, Donna Long and Kristi Ingram and husband Scott, all of Hayesville; eight grandchildren, Kyrie Bullock, Lindsay Bush, Rachel Bush, Hillary Farmer, Jacob Long, Hanna Long, Kyle Ingram and Dakota Ingram; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Mission Hill Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC with Rev. Mark Stewart and Brother Gary Crisp officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by American Legion Post #96, Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville and the Marine Corp League, Marble. Pallbearers will be Kyle Ingram, Dakota Ingram, Jacob Long, Jimmy Long, Andy Long and Dwight Long. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Long.

The family will receive friends from 12pm - 2 pm, Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Mission Hill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
