Obituary for Bryson Wesley Martin

07/06/1991 - 09/17/2026

Bryson Wesley Martin, age 35 of Hayesville and previously of Sylva, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Bryson was truly one of a kind. He had a natural ability to make people laugh, and conversations with him had a way of leaving you feeling lighter, happier, and somehow a little more hopeful than before. His sweet presence brought comfort and happiness to those around him, and his gentle spirit was matched by a quiet strength that made him uniquely Bryson.

A lover of the earth and everything wild and beautiful within it, Bryson felt most at home outdoors. He loved hiking, climbing waterfalls, gardening, and exploring wherever nature could take him. Whether he was tending to something he had planted, wandering through the woods, or finding his way to a waterfall, he had an appreciation for the simple wonders of the natural world.

He often found comfort in studying and reaching for a fuller understanding of life and reading the Bible was a strong pillar of the solace he sought through life's up and downs.

Bryson was also a naturally talented musician. He taught himself to sing and play guitar, creating music in a way that was as authentic as he was. Music was one of the many ways his creativity and spirit found their way into the world.

His beloved cat, Winston, was never far from his side. Winston traveled with Bryson wherever he went, often perched proudly on the dashboard as his faithful companion. Their adventures together were a whimsical and endearing reflection of Bryson himself—a man deeply connected to nature, animals, and the simple joys of life.

Bryson will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his father, Steve Martin, and stepmother, Deborah Martin, wife of Steve Martin of Duncan; his mother, Julie Martin of Greenville; his brother, Zachary Martin (Jessica Cordoba) of Medellín; his sister, Natalie Martin (Tyler Coleman) of Spartanburg; his stepbrother and wife, Michael & Nichole Esposito of Duncan; his nephew, Greyson Coleman; his niece, Hazel Coleman; his maternal grandparents, William and Barbara Sancomb of Townsend, Georgia; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and extended family.

Though his time with us was far too short, Bryson leaves behind something lasting in everyone who knew him—the laughter he shared, the music he made, the beauty he found in the natural world, and the feeling of being truly seen and understood in his presence.

He was gentle as he was strong, wonderfully unconventional, endlessly curious, and wholly himself.

Bryson was, and always will be, one of a kind.

Private services will be held at a later date.
