Peggy Ann Bailey, age 81 of Murphy, NC passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023, surrounded by family at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital. She was born on Oct. 19, 1941, to the late Henry Burgess and Edith Ballew Burgess.
Peggy was a member of Sweet Gum Baptist Church where she served as secretary and song leader. Peggy was a former employee of Walmart's fabric department. She also served for many years as a volunteer and a coach for Special Olympics. Peggy enjoyed sewing, quilting, and painting. She loved her family and her "little dogs"
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Don Burgess, sister Betty Jean Curtis, and stepfather Lester Arp.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Randal Bailey, son Jimmy Bailey, wife Tammy, son Roger Bailey, wife Alicia, daughter Judy Bailey and a brother Henry Burgess Jr., wife Audra, brother-in-law Max Curtis. Grandchildren, Tessa Bailey Going, husband Jonathan, Tyler Bailey, Brett Bailey, and Morgan Bailey Lipham, husband Tyler. Great grandchildren, Elijah and Emalyn Going and a new little one due in August., nieces, Cindy Curtis Call, Mandy Curtis Hughes and husband Michael, nephews, Greg and Chuck Burgess.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 6 to 8 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Sweet Gum Baptist Church, 7536 Hardscrabble Rd Mineral Bluff, Ga. with Pastor Carrol Weaver and Rev. Allen Harris officiating. Music will be provided by Cindy Call. Interment to follow in Sweet Gum Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brett Bailey, Chuck Burgess, Jonathon Going, Rusty Call, Cody Deweese, Tim Simonds, and David Branch. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Burgess and Tyler Lipham
