Mrs. Barbara Ann Garrett age 84, of Murphy, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Barbara was the daughter of the late James and Eva Marie Riddle. She loved to knit her friends and family afghans, and also loved to color. Barbara worked in the cafeteria for the Cherokee County Schools for many years. Barbara was a member of Vengeance Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Garrett, son Eddie Messer, granddaughter Vanessa Bland and brother Richard Bateman.
She is survived by her four children and spouses; Ken Messer (Lorrie), Debbie Chambers (Allen), Jim Messer (Melanie), Ancy Garrett (Mark) 2 stepsons, Travis and Joey Garrett; 4 grandchildren, Rusty Chambers, Jennifer Nelson (Chris), Jonathan Messer (Brittany) and Ashley Wimpey; 11 great grandchildren, Morgan and Aaron Bland, Rebekah, Reese, and Ryland Chambers, Tripp, and Slade Purdy, Fiona Wimpey, Jaxon, Maddox and Lennox Nelson.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday June 3, 2023 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC with Rev. Derrick Palmer and Pastor Harold Stiles officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Cemetery with the following gentleman as pallbearers; Ken Messer, Jim Messer, Jonathan Messer, Mark Garrett, Rusty Chambers and Ryland Chambers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Freddie Conley, William Phillips and Dustin Phillips.
The family will receive family and friends from 12 pm to 2 pm prior the service Saturday, June 2023.
The family will be accepting flowers but donations can also be made to The Gideon's International P.O. Box 164 Murphy NC. 28906.
