Desma Blanche Chastain, 91, of Murphy passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina to the late Fred and Dora Allen Murphy. Desma enjoyed painting, fishing, and flowers. She was a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Chastain; and brothers, Swinson Murphy, Wallace Murphy, and Arvil Murphy.
Surviving are sons, Derrell Chastain and Bruce Chastain; sisters, Reba Fowler, Carmel Worley, and Loretta Herd; grandchildren, Terri Chastain and Misty Chastain Longieliere; six great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 22, 2024 at New Martins Creek Baptist Church, with services conducted by Hoyt Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Herd, Eric Crisp, Joseph Chastain, Larry Sosebee, Travis Chastain, and Trampas Crisp.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm at New Martins Creek Baptist Church prior to the services.
