Obituary for Maxine Earley Baker

Maxine Earley Baker, 89 years old, of Murphy, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at the home of Stan and Joany Baker of Seymour, TN. Graveside funeral services will be held at Swanson Cemetery at 1:00 pm, Thursday, Nov. 7th, 2024, with Pastor Brian Browning of Windy Gap Baptist Church officiating.

Maxine was born in Shoal Creek, NC, to Henry and Lesslie Earley on April 25th, 1935. She married Charles E. Baker, a US Army Korean War era veteran on August 5th, 1950. Maxine worked for 23 years as a seamstress at Levi Strauss. She was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, taking care of and loving everyone she met. Her favorite hobby was telling stories which she related to all who would listen.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband who died on January 20th, 2013 and her sisters, Christine (Tootsie) Whitworth, Martha Baker, Lougene Cole, and Thelma (Mickey) Hembree. Maxine is survived by two sons, Ronald Baker (Linda) and Stanley Baker (Joany); and grandchildren Joey Baker (Marlana), Kevin Baker, Kristina Hulsey (Gary), Angela Nier (Heath), and Nathan Davis (deceased). Her two great grandchildren are Lauren and Kolsen Baker. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the local hospice provider. Our family wishes to thank Covenant Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they showed at each visit.
