Don William Dawes, age 84 of Warne, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Don was born in Sugarland, Texas to the late Roger Arthur Dawes, Sr. and Tomy Clinton Dawes. He had lived in Camp Pendleton in California, Subic Bay in the Philippines, Kingsville, Texas and mostly in Corpus Christi in Texas, Odem in Texas, Cedar Park in Texas and in Hayesville, North Carolina since 2008. Don had worked as a dentist. He liked gardening tomatoes and jalapeƱos. Don also liked woodworking, camping, playing the dulcimer as well as making dulcimers. He also made crosses to give out to people, made jewelry and was an avid reader. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, loved his children and his dog, "Lottie" Latida. He is a United States Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Don Michael Dawes; his brothers, Roger and Thomas Dawes; and his sisters, Dolly Tucker, Ann Prescott and Betty Humphrey.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine DeLay Dawes; his son, Charles Eric Dawes (Crystal) of Tusquittee; his daughter, Shannon Marie Dawes McMahan (Robert) of Azel, Texas; his grandchildren, Charles Wade, Rebecca, Stephanie, Connor, Elise and Erin; and one great grandson, Rylan.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Monday, March 17, 2025 at the Mountain Presbyterian Church, 3831 Highway 515 East, Blairsville, GA 30512 with Dr. Paul Min officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Granny's Attic in Hayesville or Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville.
