Obituary for Boyd Eugene Stroud

Boyd "Gene" Stroud, age 73 of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026.

He was born in Young Harris, GA to the late Boyd Paul and Frankie Hutchinson Stroud. Gene worked at Union County Schools as a custodian. He loved deer hunting and spending time with his family. Gene attended Faith Tabernacle Church in Hayesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Hewatt; one grandson; and one brother, Bruce Stroud.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Gibby Stroud; one son, Randy Griffith; two daughters, Serena "Cissy" Hewatt and Casandra "Candy" Hewatt; one brother, Johnny "Vern" Stroud (Angie); two sisters, Paula "Polly" Ware (Tommy) and Ramona Hensley; one sister-in-law, Audrey Stroud; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Bill Dyer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Peachtree. Pallbearers will be Cheyenne Griffith, Aaron Lanpolsaen, Johnny Stroud, Levi Brownley, Randy Griffith and Austin Reece.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
