Obituary for John Lawrence Schell

John Lawrence Schell, age 81 passed into the presence of our Lord at his home, cared for by his wife, Vivian.

He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, raised in Tampa, Fl. In his career, he lived in 8 states, District of Columbia and 5 countries. Many of these locations allowed him to enjoy his favorite water sports, sailing, Iron Man competition and marathon running.

John spent 26 years in the United States Marine Corps, 2 years at the Bank of Hawaii, where he designed the on-line security system for the 1st ATMs, 14 years with Lee County, Florida Administration where he worked for Florida Supreme Court System, designing their Witness Management Program still used today, 13 years with the US Postal Service, rising to postmaster in Culberson, NC. He helped establish the Marine Corps League in Andrews, N.C. and was a lifetime member. His longest residency was 21 years in Murphy, NC, one of his favorite places.

John was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Schell; mother, Myrtle Lechner and one brother, Richard Schell.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; son, John J. Schell; daughter, Adria Y. Schell; sister, Joann Armstrong; brothers, William and Joseph Schell; mother-in-law, Estelle Wilson; several grand and great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and in-law, most reside in Florida.

A Celebration of Life Catholic Mass will be held at St. William Catholic Church, August 28, 2017. There will be a meeting of family and friends from 10-11am and Mass at 11am. After mass the Marine Corps League will present the military funeral service and a light lunch to follow in the church commons.
