Obituary for Cecil Glenn Coleman

Cecil Glenn Coleman, age 69 of Murphy, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at his residence.

He was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Arthur and Estel Graham Coleman.

Cecil left this area to go to Hickory, where he met his wife of 50 years. They moved back 37 years ago, and he pastored several churches, including Victory Baptist in Tennessee, Pleasant Hill, and Bealtown Baptist. He enjoyed fishing, especially in Colorado and in Canada. He was a family man and especially enjoyed family picnics.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Herman Coleman and five sisters, Vyuta English, Betty King, Emi Lou Rose, Clarine Mays and Ruby Deal.

He was survived by his wife, Georgia Coleman; two sons, David Coleman of Murphy, NC, Robert Coleman and wife Sabrina of Turtletown, TN; two honorary sons Michael Taylor of Murphy, NC and Allan Blevins of Blairsville, GA; one brother, Raby Coleman of Hickory, NC; one sister, Louise Teague and husband Bill of Lenoir, NC; six grandchildren, Jeremy Coleman and wife Sarah, Cieaira Sawyer and husband Rodney, Marissa Markland and husband Jeff, Hunter Coleman, Taylor Coleman and Brody Coleman; and four great grandchildren, SJ Sawyer, Kayson Coleman, Camdon Sawyer, and Aria Sawyer.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy. Rev. Josh Ledford and Rev. Brad Ledford will officiate. Music will be provided by Doug and Wade Howard and Paul Grindstaff. Burial will be in the Unaka Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Coleman, Robert Coleman, Jeremy Coleman, Hunter Coleman, Taylor Coleman, Michael Taylor, Allan Blevins, and Rodney Sawyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Trantham and Robin Stiles.

The family will receive friends from 12 pm - 2 pm Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
