Obituary for James Ray Cody

James Ray Cody, age 85, of Hayesville passed away Monday, March 18, 2024. He was the son of the late William Hobert and Edith Garrett Cody.

He had worked in construction using heavy equipment. James loved riding machinery, tinkering on tractors, teaching his grandchildren to play the guitar and sing. He loved being with his family. James was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth Cody; daughter-in-law, Sue Ann; and a brother, Archie Lowell Cody.

Surviving are sons, Chuck Cody of Blue Ridge, GA, Randy Cody (Christina) of Hayesville and stepson, Donald Ray Brown of Hiawassee, GA; daughters, Debbie Foster of Blue Ridge, GA, Sandy Shelton (Ricky) of Young Harris, GA, and Tena Cody (Connie) of Cleveland, TN; brothers, William Lloyd Cody of Marble, NC, Robert Olen Cody of Andrews, NC, and Willie Joe Epperson of Henry County, GA; a sister, Lou Jean Loomis of Cummings, GA; and 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Friday, March 22, 2024 at Meadow Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Cody, Isaac Cody, Adam Garrett, Ethan Garrett, Cody Tiger, and Waylon Williams. Vincent Cody and Matthew Cody will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm prior to the services at the church.
