Obituary for Raymond Arthur Younce

Raymond Arthur Younce, age 81 of Andrews, North Carolina passed away on Thursday November 13, 2025 surrounded by his caring family.

He was born on September 5, 1944 to the late William and Ruby Ingram Younce. Raymond was a devoted family man, loyal friend and a master guitar player.

Raymond started his career as a skilled machinist tool and die maker in Gastonia, North Carolina and after moving back to Andrews he continued his trade at various establishments. He even taught this rare trade at Tri-County Community College for several years before retiring from TEAM Industries where he was known for his meticulous attention to detail, ingenuity and dedication to excellence. His hands shaped more than metal- they built parts that kept the world turning, and a family that kept his heart full.

Outside of his trade, Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family, fly fishing, hunting, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and making bluegrass music on Monday nights with his family and friends.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 60 years. Daughters Sheila (Barry) Curtis and Tammy (Willard) Enloe. Grandchildren Eden (Colby) Orr, Annalise Enloe (Nate) and Braxton (Bethany) Curtis. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren Adalyn Nix, Oliver Crisp and Colton Curtis. Sister and brother in laws Shirley (Jimmy) Mann, Mary (Charlie) Wilson, sister-in-law Shelby Younce and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Ruby Ingram Younce, brother Nelson Younce and nephew Michael Mann.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Raymond Younce will be held at 2pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Red Marble Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Stewart and Rev. David Postell officiating. Music will be by Smokey Mountain Gospel Singers. Burial will follow at Red Marble Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be VC Taylor, Jerry Campbell, Scotty Hicks, Braxton Curtis, Terry Yonce, Charlie Wilson, Willard Enloe and Roy Postell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Postell, Doug Postell, Colby Orr, Thomas Wilson, Barry Curtis, Jimmy Mann, Terry Postell, Nate Smith and Pearly Owenby.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Red Marble Baptist Church prior to the service.
