Obituary for Harold David Farmer

Harold David Farmer, age 69, passed unexpectedly Tuesday night, September 8, 2020 of an upper GI bleed at Valley View Care and Rehab in Andrews where he has resided for the past five years. Formally, he lived on Morrow Road in the Violet area of Cherokee County. Harold was a native of Cherokee County and the middle child of parents, the late James David and Alene Morrow Farmer. He was also preceded by two sisters and their spouses, Patricia Sue Brady (Rick) of Asheville and Martha Jarrett (Sam) of Thomasville, NC. He is survived by a brother, Phil Farmer and wife Naomi, and a sister, Jeanette Farmer Hedrick (Jim), all of Murphy; three nieces, Laura Hedrick (Jon Clary) of Marietta, GA; Shannon Farmer and husband Rev. Kenny Cook of Greeneville, TN and Christel Farmer and husband Barry Berrong of Murphy as well as several cousins and three great nieces and two great nephews.

Although a loner, Harold loved his dogs and often took in strays. He also liked old cars. Harold also enjoyed the gospel singing at Valley View and was of the Baptist faith. Harold lived with his parents on Morrow Road until their passing. He enjoyed talking to people in the area who stopped by on the road to talk with him.

A family graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Jerry Morrow and Rev. Kenny Cook at Poindexter Cemetery in the Violet area on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 11 am. Pallbearers include Herman Murphy, CB Akin, Jon Clary, Barry Berrong, Jimmy Morrow and Jack Tanner. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Farmer, Leroy Farmer, Paul Morrow, Vic Morrow and Carl Dockery. Music will be provided by Rev. Kenny Cook.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cherokee County's Valley River Humane Society, PO Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906 in memory of Harold David Farmer or for Gideon Bibles. The family appreciates the care given to Harold at Valley View Care and Rehab by the staff and the medical attention of Dr. Roper and Dr. Clayton and the Townson-Rose Funeral Home of Murphy for the final arrangements.
