Doris Dockery Wilson, age 87 of Andrews, NC passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 after an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County NC and the daughter of the late Nathan and Alice Postell Dockery. Following high school, Doris worked at Rodda-VanGorder Hospital and Rodda-VanGorder Clinic which later became Valley River Clinic. In the early 1960's Doris was employed at District Memorial Hospital for several years before returning to Valley River Clinic until retirement of Dr. Charles O. VanGorder, Dr. John S. Rodda and Dr. Floyd E. Blaylock, at which she returned to District Memorial Hospital where she was a medical records transcriptionist. Doris later worked freelance as a Medical Records Transcriptionist for numerous physicians, until her retirement at the age of 80. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and numerous crafts. Doris was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #15 of Andrews. She was a charter member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church and the church clerk for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband 50 years, Keith Wilson; two brothers, Thurman and Carl Dockery.
She is survived by her son, Phillip Wilson and partner of 25 years, Jerry Scholl; two step granddaughters, Jenna Scholl and Jillian Webster; two step great grandchildren, Bradley, Kinsley and sister Bonni, who is due in late March; one brother, Johnny Dockery; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Andrews. Dr. Jack Hollowell and Rev. Bo Phillips will officiate. Music will be provided by Jenny Holloway and Teresa Jefferies. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Waldroup, Ronnie Holloway, Doug Holloway, Jerry Holloway, Gary Wilson and Edwin Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Holloway and Brandon Hyde.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 3 pm, Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Andrews.
