Obituary for Patricia Ann Smith (Hamby)

Patricia Ann Smith (Hamby), age 72 of the Hiwassee Dam community, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024.

Patricia was born on December 15, 1951 in Polk County, Tennessee to the late Rev. William "Bill" Hoyt and Helen Ruth Smith. She retired from Murphy Medical Center in 2017.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dee Edward Hamby, Sr.; two grandchildren, DJ Payne and Susan Leticia (Tisha) Postelle; one brother, James Harold Smith; her grandparents, William Rans Smith, Annie Ruth Owen Smith, Thomas and Mattie Hawkins Arp; and extended uncles and aunts.

She is survived by three daughters, Tara (Doyle) Payne, Brenda (Daryl) Tankersley and Christine (Roy) Dickey; three sons, Brad Lewis, Dee Hamby (Duke) and Mike Hamby; a brother, Danny Jo Smith (Jayne) of Cleveland, TN; four grandsons, Tyler Taylor (Laurie), Evan Payne (Tori), Adam Lewis and Clayton Tankersley (Megan); five granddaughters, Noelle Long (John), Lauren Hamby, Lindsay Hamby, Samantha Skelton (Jim) and Amber Mathieu (Cory); her great-grandsons, Danner Payne, Waylon Harper, Henry Gentle, Myles Mathieu, Anderson Tankersley and Johnathan Dee Long; her great granddaughters, Merritt Taylor, Roxanne Hamby, Sailor Tuggle, Skylar Mathieu, Maeve Guzman, Charlee Skelton, Lainey Tankersley and Avery Mathieu; and other extended family, Sherry Graves, Cassandra and Matt Anys and their son, Asher.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with Pastor Josh Ledford officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Taylor, Adam Lewis, Evan Payne, Clayton Tankersley, Josh Smith and Danny Jo Smith.

  The family will receive friends from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Merritt Taylor and to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in memory of Susan Leticia Postelle.
