Ben Herbert Ashe, age 87 of Murphy, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024.
Ben was born in Cherokee County to the late Wade and Sarah Harris Ashe. He worked as a postal mail carrier. Ben loved to mow grass and spending time with his family. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of New Martins Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Chastain Ashe; and his brothers, Vernon and Ault Ashe.
He is survived by his son, Chris Ashe; a daughter, Melody Alegre (David); his brother, Roy Ashe; his sister, Estaleen Fleming; his grandchildren, Sarah Freeman, Stephen Ashe, Stephanie Ashe, Rebecca Alegre, Heather McAninch (Graham) and James Alegre; and his great grandchildren, Elizabeth Martinez, Alex Ashe, Sophia Freeman, Johnathan Freeman, Natalie Ashe, Colton Ashe, Noah Ashe, Zowie Seggarman, Abigail Alegre, Liam Flynn, Ernest McAninch and Parker Seggarman.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at New Martins Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. Burial will be in Old Martins Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Woody, Louis Barnwell, Alex Ashe, Stephen Ashe, David Alegre and James Alegre.
The family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 prior to the funeral service.
