Obituary for Thomas Van Mott

Thomas Van Mott, 88, of Ormond Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 at the Hayesville House. He was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Charles and Selma McMillen Mott. Thomas was a dairy farmer and later became a partner with the Ashwell Brothers in their Oldsmobile dealership in Herndon, Va. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Thomas loved to go on cruises, horse races and playing cards. He was a member of the Halifax River Yacht Club, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Moose Lodge, of Ormond Beach, and the Lions Club in Herndon, Va. He retired and moved to Florida in 1978. Then he fell in love with Hayesville and spent his time between Florida and North Carolina. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first cousin, Margaret Coomber. He is survived by his wife, Dolly Mott, they were high school sweethearts and had been married for 68 years; two sons, John "Jack" Mott and Bob Mott and wife, Stacey, all of Ormond Beach; one daughter, Mary Mott of Hayesville; second cousin, Vicky Coomber; three grandsons, John Mott, of Hayesville, Chase and Robby Mott, of Ormond Beach. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mountain Home Health Services, 115 Hospice/Mountain Home Nursing Lane, Hayesville, NC 28904 or to the Memory Care/Hayesville House, 480 Old Hwy 64 W, Hayesville, NC 28904.
