Obituary for Frank Corneilus Adams Jr

06/18/1945 - 03/04/2025

Frank Corneilus Adams, Jr, age 79 of Murphy, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 after an 11-year battle with cancer. He was under the care of Four Seasons Hospice for the last 15 months. Frank's loving wife and best friend of 34 years, Rowena Bryson Adams, was by his side for the duration of his illness and was his caregiver until his passing. Frank fought a courageous battle with the LORD being his strength and shield.

Frank was born in New York on Long Island to the late Frank Corneilus Adams, Sr. and Pearl Wilson Adams on June 18, 1945. He was their only child. When Frank was an infant, his parents made the decision to leave New York behind and make the move to Bear Creek, West Virginia to be near his mother's family. Frank spent his early childhood days running the ridges, playing in the creeks and finding his passion for the great outdoors. The family made their last move to Fort Myers, Florida where Frank completed elementary school, junior high and high school. During his high school years, Frank found his passion for sports becoming a star athlete winning many awards in Track & Field and earning a football scholarship. After graduating high school, Frank attended Lake City Junior College and Forest Ranger School earning a Forest Technician Degree. Frank moved to Murphy in 1982 and was proud to call Murphy his home until his passing. Shortly after moving to the area, he started his own drywall business. He was the owner/operator of Adams Drywall for a span of 30 years with many satisfied customers. Frank was fair, honest, steadfast and resilient in his profession. His motto was "do it right and get 'er done".

Frank was an avid sportsman. He loved camping, canoeing, hiking, fishing and hunting. His greatest passion was deer hunting and he took great pride in supplying his family a "freezer full of venison" that lasted from season to season. Frank was an ethical hunter, obeying the laws and regulations, respecting wildlife and had good sportsmanship while hunting. He believed in only taking what was needed from the land and handed down these ethical principles to his children, grandchildren and others that he mentored. Frank became a Christian later in his life at age 57 and he was strong in his faith. He was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he attended regularly, sang in the choir, assisted teaching the youth Sunday school class and helped in other areas when needed. Frank loved fellowshipping with his church family and will always be remembered for his smiles and "special hugs". Frank was a family man he loved his family dearly, always making himself available to them and enjoying every precious moment he was able to spend with them. Frank was called several endearing names by his loving family he leaves behind. He is called loving husband and best friend by his wife, Rowena. He is called Dad bus his children, Troy Adams, Craig Adams (Martha) and Daryl Adams (Stephanie). He is called grandpa by his grandchildren, Kaylee Adams, Blake Adams and Kade Adams. He is called "Daddy Frank" by Rowena's children, Ashlie Hammack Nahikian (Aaron), Arron Hammack (Brandon) and Adam Hammack (Heather) whom he loved as his own children. He is called papa and papa Frank by Ashlie and Aaron's children, Memphis Pharr, Cassidy Norris and Addie Nahikian whom he loved as his own grandchildren.

Frank's presence will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. His legacy will live on in those "teachable moments' and in the stories, memories and the love he leaves behind.
