Charles Walter Gibson Jr., age 92, of Andrews NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Junior, as known, was a devoted husband, father, papaw, deacon and friend. He was a member of Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He was born to the late Charles “Reem” and Retta Angel Gibson on November 21, 1932. Junior was born and raised in Andrews.
Junior was drafted into the Army and served as a machine operator during the Korean War. After serving his country, Junior worked at Nantahala Talc and Limestone for 25 years, where he began as weighmaster and retired as quarry superintendent. After he retired, he began working construction; building houses and on the side, he worked on small engines. Junior loved playing the guitar with friends and church members.
He served as a deacon, song leader and Sunday school superintendent of Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church, where he was also involved in many remodeling projects. Junior loved the Lord, church and family more than anything. He was an avid sports fan – particularly of the Atlanta Braves. Anyone who knew Junior knew he would never miss a Braves baseball game from his favorite chair. Whenever his children or grandchildren would visit Papaw and Memaw, Junior could always be found in his porch swing with the biggest grin. He enjoyed telling stories and throwing the football with his boys and their friends and in later years, his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by one sister, Hildred Dockery of Columbia, SC.
