It is with joy and pride we want to announce that our son, Joshua Michael
Clark, age 47 years, entered into the Kingdom of God on Thursday,
September 19, 2024.
Joshua was an ambitious son who loved his family and loved the Marine
Corps.
Josh graduated from Murphy High School in 1994 where he enjoyed
playing on the football team in his junior and senior years. Shortly before
he graduated Murphy High, he enlisted into the United States Marine
Corps. Joshua excelled and thrived in the corps and was inducted into
Scout Sniper training program. After completing training, Josh was
deployed twice to Iraq as a Marine Corps Sniper with his unit.
During 2003, his battalion was part of the first invasion during the battle of
Fallujah. Josh served two tours of duty in Iraq before returning home to
begin training as a private military contractor. In that assignment, he
served multiple years defending United States troops in Iraq. Joshua
rapidly advanced to become head of security at the United States Embassy
in Bagdad before returning home to America as a decorated US Marine.
After separating from the Marine Corps, Joshua returned to America
determined to find a position in which he could use his military training as a
law enforcement officer. He was hired on by the Sheriff's Department in
Baton Rouge, Louisianna, and became part of their SWAT team and
narcotics unit.
After protecting countless lives from terrorists overseas and drug cartel
threats at home, he accepted a job overseas in Jordan with the US State
Department. In that position, he was responsible for training approximately
700 State Department agents whose job was protecting and evacuating
diplomats from war torn Liberia and other global combat zones.
Our son Joshua loved life and was passionate about everything he did. He
had the ability to be as sweet and soft as he was strong! He always had a
playful side of him. He was a terrific father and a wonderful grandfather.
He loved music and loved to sing karaoke. He enjoyed entertaining his
platoon with fun and crazy antics to make them laugh and boost their
morale.
Joshua is survived by his parents, James and Nancy Clark of Murphy, NC,
his two sons, Jacob Clark (Brittany) and Jeremiah Clark (Jaderin); his two
beautiful grandchildren, Jamison and Jaylynn; his two brothers, David Clark
and Scott Clark of Brevard, NC, and his grandmother, Myrtis Josephine
Elder.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, October 11, 2024, at
Oak Grove Baptist Church in Marble with Pastor Johnathan Hughes
officiating. Joshua will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in
Washington, D.C. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Wounded Warrior or Tunnel To
Towers.
