John Douglas Proffitt, age 74 of Murphy, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
John was born in Binghampton, New York to the late Harold and Helen Fitch Proffitt. He worked as a carpenter. John loved listening to country-western music and working and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoyed making crafts. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and riding the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was a member of Ranger United Methodist Church. John was a United States Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Chuck Proffitt; and his sister, Carol Proffitt.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Byrne Proffitt; his son, Daniel Coleman; his brother, Dick Proffitt; his grandchildren, Abby Coleman and Angelica Coleman; two great grandchildren and one on the way.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm on Monday, June 16 ,2025 at Ranger United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Gaddy officiating.
