Obituary for Derek Marshall Martin

Derek Martin, age 46 of Hayesville passed away Wednesday Jan 3 at Murphy Medical Center.

Derek was born in Towns County to Aaron and Luchretia Martin.

Derek was a graduate of Hayesville High School, class of 1989. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Langley Air Force base in Hampton, Virginia. He was a fuel specialist with the 1st tactical air fighter wing. In 1990 he served in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. One of his favorite memories was coming home to his 3 year old Brittany after the war. His love for McDonalds was passed on to her. His first question to Britt was, “What do you want to do?” her response, “Let’s go to Ronald McDonalds and play on the playground.” His children also followed in his footsteps with the love of antiques. Derek had an avid love for country music, the Braves and his cat Jerry Martin. He was an advocate for veteran affairs and childhood cancer. Derek was self-employed with an Ebay and Amazon mail order business.

In addition to his parents, Derek is survived by a son, Bryce Dillon Martin of Hayesville, a daughter, Brittany Paige Martin of Fletcher, NC, a brother Adrian Martin of Hayesville and a niece Chelsey Patience Martin of Burlington, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Eulogy will be given by his son, Bryce Martin. Burial will be in the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and V.F.W.Post #6812. Pallbearers will be, Winston Martin, Mike Byers, Caleb Browning, Eddie Sherlin, Scotty Mull and Greg Gibson.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to any veteran's organization of your choice.
