Verdie Louise Newton Patterson, age 80, of Marble passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024. Verdie was born April 7, 1943 in Cherokee County to the late William Lester Newton and Mary Ann Newton. She enjoyed time with her family and going to church. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses and attending the Wagon Train. Verdie also liked going on vacations and loved sunny beaches.
In addition to the parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Marvin Joe Patterson; and two brothers, William Crayton Newton and John Clayton Newton (JC).
Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Joben Clifford Patterson; twin granddaughters, Christi and Misti Killian, and Kandi Casa all of Murphy, NC; brothers, Albert Newton (Rebecca) and Therman Newton (Jody) all of Murphy; sister, Annie Mae Dockery (Bobby) of Alabama; sister-in-law, Ruth Newton of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Angela Freeman, and Annie Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel-Murphy with Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Music will be provided by Bronson T. Newton, and April M. Bailey. Burial will be at Little Brasstown Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Newton, Jamie Reynolds, Bronson T. Newton, Dillard Dockery, Harrison White, and Kevin Bailey. Ernest White, Jack Newton, Jerry Cole, Joe Cole, Wayne Rutledge, and Darrell Donaldson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Townson-Rose Chapel-Murphy prior to the services.
