Obituary for Helen Chastain Ashe

Helen Chastain Ashe, age 76, of Murphy, NC passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Clay County Care Center.

She was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Robert Luther and Ida Mae Morton Chastain. Helen had worked for Clifton Precision for several years but her passion was being a home health care giver.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Grover Chastain, Lee Chastain, J.B. Chastain, Billy Chastain, Frank Chastain, Earnest Chastain and L.C. Chastain; sisters, Dixie Chastain Jones, Ruby Chastain Dockery, Willie Payne, Amanda Sosebee and infant sister, Annie Mae Chastain.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ben Herbert Ashe; one son, Christopher Ben Ashe of Murphy and his children, Sarah, Stephen and Stephinie; one daughter, Melody Elizabeth Alegre and husband David of Prescott, AZ and their children, Rebeici, Heather and James; two brothers, Benjamin Chastain and wife Mary Sue of Chatsworth, GA and Phillip Chastain and wife Nina of Murphy; one sister, Mary Alice McCoy and JC of Murphy; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the New Martins Creek Baptist Church in Murphy, NC. Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. Hoyt Brown will officiate. Music will be provided by Aud Brown, Donna Crisp and Lamar Chastain. Burial will be in the Old Martins Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Chastain, Jan McCoy, Larry Sosebee, Travis Chastain, Wendell Chastain and Steve Chastain. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Carringer, Hugh Carringer, Jimmy Carringer, Sandy Parker and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 PM, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the New Martins Creek Baptist Church in Murphy, NC.
