Obituary for Dr. Homer Wilson

Dr. Homer Wilson went home to be with his Lord on July 2, 2018 in Union General Hospital, Blairsville, GA. He was 95.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters, and his first wife, Lenore Hardin Wilson.

He is survived by his second wife, Dot Sharp Wilson, his two sons, Reid Wilson (Clara) and David Wilson (Judy), step son, Wallace Sharp (Carolyn), step daughter, Catherine Roper (Mike), grandchildren Gabe Wilson (April), Natalie Wilson, Justin Wilson, Lucas Wilson (Andrea), step grandchildren Keyla Flaws (Ben), Michaela Roper, great grandchildren Savannah, Griffin, Kendra and Cale Wilson and one step great grandchild Emma Flaws.

He entered the U.S. Army on April 17, 1943 and served in General Patton's Third Army in the European campaign until the end of World War II.

He was ordained to preach on Christmas Day 1955 at Second Baptist Church of Andrews. He built Hyatts Creek Baptist Church in 1957 and served as pastor for ten years. In 1958, he started the Revival Hour Broadcast at WKRK radio station in Murphy, NC which ran his one hour Saturday broadcast until 2016. Many people were blessed by his five minute Scripture and Thought broadcast which aired daily Monday through Friday. He also pastored Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Maryville, TN from May 1967- August 1968, Valleytown Baptist Church from August 1968-April 1971, Beech Avenue Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC from May 1971-March 1988 and Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church in Andrews from May 1988-May 2003.

While pastoring in Gastonia, he established a church on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indes.

In October 1985, he was awarded his Doctor of Divinity by Fundamental Bible Seminary, Johnson City, TN. Four years later, he earned his Doctor of Laws Degree from Emmanuel Baptist Seminary in Shelby, NC.

He devoted his life to the preaching of the gospel and winning souls to the Lord. He preached revivals throughout the southeastern United States and sent bibles to various places worldwide. He will be greatly missed by so many who loved him dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church in Andrews. Rev. J. B. Smith, Rev. Matt Mull, Rev. Mickey Stewart and Rev. Donald Colvard will officiate. Music will be provided by Red Marble Baptist Church Choir. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and VFW post #6812. Pallbearers will be David Anderson, Chuck Davis, Jeremiah Wyke, Matthew Mull, Eddie Hardin and Mike Solesbee. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow ministers.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 pm, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church in Andrews.
