James Mitchell Decker, age 63 of Canton, NC and formerly of Murphy, NC passed away Monday, January 27, 2025.
He was the son of the late J.D. and Mary Forrester Decker. Mitchell was a US Air Force veteran; he served 13 years, reaching the rank of Tech Sargent, and received numerous meritorious medals and plaques during his time served. He loved fishing and golfing with his sons. Mitchell enjoyed playing and spending time with his three grandchildren. He was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Dalrymple Decker; two sons, Brian Decker and fiancé, Angela Johnson stationed in Oklahoma, and Brandon Decker of Knoxville, TN; one daughter, Bethany Ervin (Shaun) of Burnsville, NC; one brother, Darrrell Decker (Dawn) of Murphy; one sister, Sandy Sneed of Murphy; and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Ariel and Anna.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Pastor Amanda Fowler will officiate. Music will be provided by the Golden Sisters and Disciple House. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with the military graveside rites being conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, NC and the Marine Corp League Marble, NC.. Pallbearers will be Verlon Enloe, Danny Bryson, Jamie Palmer, Joel Palmer, Talen Dalrymple, Zayne Dalrymple, Jonathan Dalrymple and Glenn Kephart. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Palmer and Freddie Conley.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
