Obituary for Ralph Richard Stiles

Ralph Richard Stiles, age 88 of Murphy, left this earth for his heavenly home on February 25, 2023. He was a lifelong resident of Murphy, only leaving the area to serve in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.

Ralph was a member of Mt. Liberty Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, RA leader, a Sunday School teacher and a historian. He was the son of the late Rev. Fred and Ethey Gibson Stiles.

Ralph was preceded in death by his siblings, Gladys McDonald, Leila Loudermilk, Hadley Stiles, Reid Stiles, Peggy Coleman and Mabel Cooke; and his niece, Jeania Cooke Allman; his nephews, Jack McDonald, Kenneth McDonald, Ricky Twiggs, Charles “Chuck” Stiles and Donald “Chub” Coleman.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Betty Hughes, Kaye Killian, Sue Ledford, Marian Murphy, David Stiles, Ronnie Coleman, Sallie Baker, Terry Coleman, Jimmie Brown and Lisa Twiggs; many great nieces and great nephews; many great great-nieces and great great-nephews; and two special care givers, Diane McDonald and Jennifer Twiggs.

A funeral service will be held at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church at 4pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Rev. Zach Orton and Rev. Gearld Derreberry will officiate. Singers will be the church choir and Isaac Brown. Burial will be at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #96, Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville and the Marine Corp League, Marble. Pallbearers will be Chris Twiggs, Jeremy Twiggs, Tyler McDonald, Colby Brown, Heath Dockery and Randy Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene “Blue” Hughes, Randall McDonald, Ronnie Coleman, Terry Coleman, David Stiles, Herbert Hughes and the deacons of Mt. Liberty Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.
