Joyce Ann Icenhower Vaught of Hayesville, NC, went to be with the Heavenly Father on Friday, June 30, 2023. She was born on February 29, 1944 in Franklin, North Carolina to the late Arnold and Myrtle Gladden Icenhower. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Paul James Vaught and his sister Peggy Vaught, and her brother Eddie Icenhower.
Joyce loved spending time with family and her grandchildren, and loved cooking their favorite meals whenever they came to visit. Joyce had a passion for helping others however she could. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping, and trying different restaurants.
She loved serving in her community. She was an active member and volunteer of Truett Memorial Baptist Church for over 50 years. At Truett, she participated in the choir, was the secretary, and was involved in numerous other church activities. She was also a member of her local Civitan club, where she won awards for her exceptional service.
She started her career in banking in 1977, and retired in 2006 from First Citizens Bank. She decided she loved banking so much she went back with the Bank of Hiawassee and officially retired again in 2017. Throughout her banking career, she was recognized as Teller Supervisor of the Year for the entire First Union National Bank. She also received numerous monthly service awards throughout her career.
Joyce was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Teresa Magee and husband, Patrick, of Acworth, GA, a son, Anthony Vaught of Hayesville, brothers Larry Icenhower (Sharon), Gary Icenhower (Barbara), four grandchildren, Brandon James Vaught, and wife Alexis Vaught, Amanda Blake Vaught and Spencer Vickery, Tristyn Paige Magee and Kiara Elise Magee, and four great - grandchildren Rowen James Vaught, McKinley Harper Vaught, Carter Anne Vickery, and Hayes Ellis Vickery.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Truett Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Hayesville Baptist Presbyterian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Vaught, David Ray, David Yonce, Dennis Myers, Mitch Arrowhead, and Rick Walker.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 Sunday afternoon at Truett Memorial Baptist Church prior to the services.
