Obituary for James Doyle McClure

02/18/1946 - 03/08/2025

James Doyle McClure, age 79 of Marble, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Doyle was born in Cherokee County to the late Elbert and Velma Ruby Messer McClure. He graduated from Andrews High School. He loved being outdoors, whether it was mowing his grass, fishing with his brother and friends, and his favorite of all gardening. Doyle enjoyed spending time on the Nantahala River with friends fishing all day, then eating some fried potatoes and cornbread by the water. He loved raising a big vegetable garden, and then sharing it all with his family and friends. Doyle was a very caring person, he loved his family and friends with all his heart. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked. Doyle’s greatest blessing was his beautiful granddaughter, Bella, or as he referred to her, “Papaws Girl!” He enjoyed going to her ballgames, watching programs at her school, and Bella spending time at his house, especially eating ice cream together. Doyle attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Snap on Tools as a painter in the machinist department.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy McClure and Wendell McClure; and a brother-in-law, Roy Burris.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ditmore McClure; his daughter, Tammy Byers, and husband Jason; his only grandchild, Bella Byers; his brother, Darrell McClure and wife Darlene; his sisters, Barbara Morrow and husband Attle, Linda Palmer and husband Ricky, Sandra Burris, and sister-in-law Charlotte McClure; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with eulogy and scriptures given by Dustin McClure and Tommy Joe Martin.
