Obituary for Frank Benton Holt II

Frank Benton (Ben) Holt, II age 94 of Hayesville, NC passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his residence.

He was a native of Monroe, LA and the son of the late Frank Benton Holt I and Thyra Denholme Holt. He helped find the land and build the St. Clairs Episocal Church in Blairsville, GA. Ben also helped find the land and built the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC where he was a member and very involved in all avenues of the church. He worked on the standing committee in the Diocese of Western Carolina. Ben was a mentor for the E.F.M. (Education for Ministry) for 20 years. He was an avid golfer and artist. He was a World War II Navy veteran; he served in North Africa.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Bonner Holt; son, Frank Benton Holt III; one brother, George Holt; and one sister, Thyra Russell.

He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Cline-Griffiths and husband Tom, Susan Holt Pettus and Kathleen Holt; one brother, Robert Holt and wife Elizabeth; daughter in law, Freda Holt; sister-in-law, Sandy Holt; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, NC. Rev. Bill Breedlove will officiate. The family will receive friends in the parish hall following the service.
