Obituary for James Mitchell Myers

James Mitchell "Mitch" Myers, age 70 of Murphy, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his residence.

He was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County and the son of the late James Milton Myers and Dorothy Emogene Chambers Walsh. Mitch started his career as an educator and head football coach in the public school system at Murphy High School then went to Cherokee, Franklin, and Hayesville schools. He loved investing in the lives of the kids that he taught and coached; and was a great encourager to many students throughout the years. Mitch loved his family and had a very special bond with his grandson. He was a wonderful Christian man who displayed the love of Jesus in his everyday life. Mitch enjoyed cattle farming. When he retired, he became a beekeeper and enjoyed talking bees with anyone who would listen. He was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church since early childhood where he taught Sunday School and Wednesday night Young Adult Bible Study.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Myers of Hayesville; his daughters, Courtney Myers, and Gina Myers both of Murphy; his step-children, Daphne Davis (Tim) and Darren Lowe (Bethany); his brothers, Tim Myers and wife Shelia of Tampa, Florida and Sam Myers and wife Brooke of Murphy; his sister, Kathy Sneed of Murphy; his grandson, Gabriel Swimmer; his step-grandchildren, Colby, Jaxzon and Willow; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Little Brasstown Baptist Church with Rev. Aud Brown officiating and Tim Myers delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Myers, Cody Thrasher, Brandon Thompson, Sean Chastain, John Hall, Mike Logan and Doug Stroupe.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Little Brasstown Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
